SOUTH DAKOTA SHPO DATA QUALITY STATEMENT
The Cultural Resource Geographic Research Information Display (CRGRID) is an easier
way to access the South Dakota State Historic Preservation Office's (SHPO) historic
sites information. Federal and state law requires the SHPO to undertake and maintain
a statewide survey of historic properties. A statewide survey provides us with a
permanent record of the state's historic properties and is a valuable source for
historical research. The SHPO, federal agencies, state agencies, local communities,
and private companies all use the information gathered by the survey as a planning
tool to ensure wise use of the state's cultural resources.
DATA ACCURACY: The SHPO makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of the data in
CRGRID. Some factors, however, are beyond our control. Properties may have been
demolished or moved since surveys were taken, addresses may have changed, incorrect
information may have been recorded on survey forms, or the information contained
in CRGRID may be outdated. The data available in CRGRID is provided with the understanding
that they are not guaranteed to be correct or complete. Conclusions drawn from,
or actions undertaken based on, such data and information are the sole responsibility
of the user.
The aerial imagery ranges from current to three years old. The aerial imagery is
for reference only and should not be used as a substitute for field survey.
CRGRID is a research tool, not an up-to-the-minute inventory about every historic
and/or architecturally significant property in the state. This tool allows researchers
to investigate and review potentially significant properties according to the best
data that is available in the SHPO's historic sites inventory. Please contact us
if you notice any errors. Errors can be emailed to the SHPO at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The inclusion of a property in CRGRID does not imply that it has special standing
with the SHPO programs, unless it has been officially designated by the National
Park Service as a National Register of Historic Places property. Conversely, the
absence of a property from this database does not imply a lack of historic, architectural,
or archaeological importance. Other historic properties may exist that have not
yet been identified. Properties included in CRGRID are not automatically assured
grants or any other assistance or protection.
